British Empire Medal for local choir Founder and Director of Music

The Founder of the Alcester Male Voice Choir has been awarded a British Empire Medal, Judith land was named in the Queens New Year’s honours list for her services to music and the community,

The former Alcester Grammar school teacher formed the choir with the help of students, parents and teachers after moving to the Midlands from South Wales, The accolade comes as the choir celebrates 40 years of performances together including local concerts and such prestigious venues as the Royal Albert Hall as well as tours in Europe,

Judith first found out she had been nominated about six weeks ago but never believed she would be picked. “You sit on edge for a little while just waiting, it was extremely thoughtful of whoever nominated me and who thought I deserved it. I’m just trying to absorb it truly is a privilege, I’m honoured” she said. “I’ve had 40 glorious years with my choir and I’m immensely proud of them, I have to thank the community for their support, I think it will take a while to sink in”
